On October 13, Nativity freshmen visited the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park to explore an extraordinary exhibition of ancient Egyptian art and artifacts. Featuring 130 works spanning 3,000 years of history, the exhibition brought the ancient world to life through intricate gold jewelry, monumental statues, and a gilded coffin more than 3,000 years old. Students also encountered artifacts from the recently unearthed “Golden City,” a workers’ community near Luxor, offering a glimpse into the lives of those who lived in ancient Egypt.
The field trip provided a meaningful opportunity for students to connect their classroom studies in Art, History, and Theology with the art, culture, and beliefs of the ancient world. By experiencing these remarkable works firsthand, students deepened their understanding of the past and saw how the study of history can illuminate the civilizations and traditions that continue to shape our understanding of the world today.
